We recently held a UK Salesforce Consultants & Contractors (SFC&C) community event in our London office, hosted by Glocomms expert Conor O'Neill.

Conor was joined by SFC&C Founder Dovydas Mockevicius who shared a thought-provoking perspective on innovation and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and creativity within the Salesforce community.

We also welcomed guest speaker Deepak Gupta, Practice Lead at Cloud Odyssey who showcased the capabilities of Salesforce Revenue Lifecycle Management (RLM) and Revenue Cloud, and their potential to transform revenue management.

Our very own Salesforce contracts expert Conor presented at the event, sharing insights on historic trends in the Salesforce market, and the impact of seasonal hiring patterns. Discover some of his highlights from the evenings' discussions:

Q: What insights did you gain on Revenue Cloud during the evening?

A: During his presentation Deepak Gupta gave us a demonstration of Revenue Cloud which was exciting to see live, because the way they’ve build it makes the whole process look a lot easier from a user’s perspective. The complexity of the architecture seemed very simple, almost like administrative work. It felt very intuitive - like buying something on an e-commerce website. You can easily bundle and package products, and create deals in a very simple way. I thought the session was eye-opening and he provided valuable takeaways for everyone who attended the event.

Q: You talked about the Salesforce ecosystem, what do you think makes it so unique?

A: One of the unique aspects of the Salesforce ecosystem is how it reflects broader trends, particularly in hiring cycles. The patterns we are seeing in Salesforce hiring, especially with Account Executives, mirror global hiring cycles that happen year after year. These trends influence the availability of talent and the demand for certain roles, and that's something we've seen repeatedly in the Salesforce community.

Q: Why is innovation important in the Salesforce community?

A: This is something that Dovydas Mockevicius covered in his presentation, he touched upon how crucial innovation is, no matter what role you’re in. It’s an important topic that is often overlooked, but it can make a significant difference in how you apply yourself to your job. Salesforce professionals, whether they’re developers, consultants or administrators, need to continuously innovate to stay ahead of the curve and solve problems in new and creative ways.

Q: What impact do seasonal hiring trends have?

A: Seasonal hiring patterns can have significant implications for both clients and candidates. Whether it's during a hiring frenzy or a quiet period, it’s crucial for companies to have a continuous flow of talent to meet their project demands. From a candidate perspective, you want to secure contracts year-round as it provides you with stability and more opportunities for growth. From a client’s point of view, you need the right business critical talent available to you year-round to avoid project delays.

If you are a candidate in a contract that ends in December, you may struggle to secure another one if you are looking through the winter period. The hiring spree that kicks off in January can be exciting, however the job market often becomes oversaturated and the competition increases, bringing further challenges to securing a new contract. Hiring managers on the other hand, may find it harder to find the specific talent they need due to the influx of candidates. Whilst we’d assume a large number of candidates to be a positive outcome, in certain circumstances it can extend the hiring process.

Navigating both busy and quiet hiring periods is tricky, but I personally think taking a strategic approach is key. By planning ahead, whether that be building a continuous network of contacts, or maintaining a flexible workforce through contracts or temporary placements, you can mitigate some of the negative impacts of seasonal hiring.
